Recent studies of the media market indicate that in Europe currently, many pro-Kremlin mass media continue their harmful and dangerous business. How has the situation changed in the Czech Republic in view of Russia’s war against Ukraine, are many pro-Kremlin media still active and what needs to be done to solve this problem — Newssky spoke with David Stulik, who is a senior political analyst at the European Centre for Security Policy in Prague.

Regarding pro-Kremlin information sites in the Czech Republic, in my opinion, the Czech Republic has learned its lesson.

After February 24, Internet providers finally dared to turn off Russian and pro-Russian sites, as well as Russian TV channels from cable networks, we saw how the level of Russian propaganda support by Russians in the Czech Republic dropped, and it became noticeable that they do not have information from their sources, and when the authorities closed Czech pro-Russian news channels down, public opinion turned to the side of Ukraine.

We saw that it was not censorship, but only turning off pages and TV channels that spread hate speech, incited ethnic conflict, and promoted violence and war, which is prohibited by various European conventions; it really had an impact on public opinion. The level of trust in the Czech Republic for pro-Russian websites has fallen, the amount of material has decreased significantly, and even now that these websites are back online, they do not have the same influence they had before.
